Cátia Fernandes will join the teaching staff on the 2nd edition of the Postgraduate Studies in Maritime Law, at the Portuguese Catholic University, which will take place from September 23rd, 2025 to January 13th, 2026.

The Postgraduate Studies in Maritime Law is an innovative course in Portugal focusing on Maritime Law issues on a domestic and international level. With a multidisciplinary approach, it combines legal and regulatory topics, with an excellent teaching staff with vast experience in the area.

Cátia Fernandes participated in the conference ““Specialised Arbitrations: Maritime Arbitration” organised by PLMJ and CAM Lisboa – the Maritime Arbitration Centre of the CONCÓRDIA Association, which took place on July 2 in Lisbon.

Cátia Fernandes joined the panel “The development of maritime trade and the Lisbon Maritime Arbitration Centre (CAM Lisboa)” as a speaker, where she analysed the main regimes with an impact on the development of the maritime trade in Portugal, with particular focus on the Madeira International Shipping Registry regime and its connection to CAM Lisboa. The conference brought together national and international experts and sought to reflect on the growth of the maritime transport sector in Portugal and the potential of CAM Lisboa in this context.

Cátia is a Member of the Management Committee and an Arbitrator appointed by CAM Lisboa.

Cátia Fernandes attended the Madeira Maritime Week, an evet that took place from 19 to 23 May 2025, participating as a moderator in the panel on the subject “1,000 ships registered in Madeira”, which addressed the challenges associated with the growth of the Madeira International Shipping Register and the measures needed to maintain the competitiveness and quality of this ship register.

Cátia Fernandes, partner and founder of the firm, has once again consolidated her ranking in the Chambers Europe Guide 2025, keeping her position in Band 1 of Transportation: Shipping, where she has been ranked for 19 consecutive years.

CF – Maritime Legal Services has also strengthened its position, for the second year in a row, maintaining its rank in Band 3 in the same department.

These results represent the firm’s commitment to offering a high-quality services to its customers in the shipping area.

Cátia Fernandes was a speaker at the Seminar “A Sea of Opportunities”, co-organized by WISTA Portugal and the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, which took place on 19 November.

As part of the National Maritime Day (November 16th) this initiative aimed to promote the sea as a space for job opportunities for young people.

The IFLR awards are the result of a rigorous process of independent analysis, based on the innovation, transversality and complexity of the transactions involved.
